Pre-Analysis Plan Project

Due May 18, 2025, at 11:00 PM

The objective for this project is to produce a pre-analysis plan for a proposed randomized evaluation of a development intervention. The pre-analysis plan will follow the structure provided by the Journal of Development Economics, which accepts not-yet-completed papers as Registered Reports based on the pre-analysis plan.

The Journal of Development Economics Registered Report submission template is available here. You should follow the guidelines provide there when structuring your report, with the following exceptions:

  1. Omit the reference to study pre-registration
  2. Omit the reporting checklist
  3. You do not need to discuss multiple hypothesis testing, though you are welcome to do so if you wish
  4. Omit the section on administrative information

Text within each of the sections of your pre-analysis plan should be structured as it would appear in a paper, in prose form, and not as bullet-point answers to the individual questions. All the text must be written by you, and I may ask you to come discuss the papers you cite or the details of your proposed research design before assigning your grade.

Additional information on Registered Reports is available here. An example of a Registered Report that was accepted by the Journal of Development Economics is available here.

You will submit your registered report as a pdf along with a do file that generates your power calculations.

Though you are not required to do so, I encourage you to email me with a proposed topic for your pre-analysis plan by May 2. I will respond to proposals received by then with suggestions of relevant literature and interventions you might wish to build on.
